How to Create a Facebook Lead Ad and Get Leads as Tasks

October 2, 2023 4 min read 3

A Facebook lead ad lets someone become your customer without leaving the app: they tap the ad, fill in a short form and send you their contact details. This three-and-a-half-minute video walks through both halves: the ad and its lead form on your company page, then the Facebook integration in Planfix. The Help Center’s Facebook Lead Ads guide covers every setting, and leads reach Planfix CRM seconds after the form is sent.

What you’ll learn: how to attract customers from Facebook

  1. Start a lead ad straight from your company page and set its goal to collecting leads.
  2. Build the lead form: contact details, a few short questions, language and a privacy policy.
  3. Fill in the audience, duration, placements and payment details Facebook asks for.
  4. Connect your page in Planfix and pick the templates for lead tasks and new contacts.
  5. Send yourself a test lead and sync the form fields with task and contact fields.

How to send Facebook lead forms to Planfix, step by step

Step 1. Start the lead ad on your Facebook page

Open your company page on Facebook and click Promote, then select the Create a new ad ad type. Specify that the goal of the ad is to attract more leads and fill in the fields in the Ad design block.

Step 2. Build the lead form

Click Create form and set up the form that collects customer information. Customize the form text, specify which contact details you want, add a few short questions, set the language, add a privacy policy and save the form. Then complete the Advantage+ creative and Special ad category fields, specify the audience the form should be shown to, and finish with the duration, placements and payment method.

Step 3. Connect the page in Planfix

In Planfix, go to Account Management — Integrations — Social media — Facebook integration, click Add page and select your company’s page, then allow Planfix to receive the information it needs from Facebook. The account administrator does this; the Help Center covers connecting a Facebook page. An empty page list means your Facebook account is not linked to any company pages.

Step 4. Choose templates and assignees for lead tasks

Open the integration settings for the page and fill in:

  • Object (template) for creating new tasks from leads — the task template used to create lead tasks, with the fields your team needs; the integration also takes a template for tasks from direct messages to the page;
  • Template for creating new contacts — the template for the contact card of each new lead;
  • Add additional assignees and Create messages in Planfix from user — who else joins lead tasks, and whose name appears on messages sent from Planfix.

If your account has no suitable templates yet, create them first and then add them to the integration preferences. When no assignees are set anywhere, Planfix assigns the account owner or whoever configured the integration.

Step 5. Sync the lead form fields

The last step is matching form fields with task and contact fields in Planfix. To get the field names right, send yourself a test lead: in Facebook’s lead ads testing tool, pick your page in the Page field, your form in the Form field and click Create lead. The test lead arrives in Planfix with all the form fields, and their names are what you map.

If the task template contains fields with the same names as the questions in your form, Planfix fills them in automatically when a lead task is created.

What arrives in Planfix after a form is submitted

Once the setup is done, everyone who fills out the form becomes a new contact in Planfix. Alongside the contact, Planfix creates a task from the template you specified in the integration settings, and its description contains everything you asked in the lead form, so the assignee can call or write back without opening Facebook.

Someone already in your contact list does not get a duplicate card: the existing contact is matched by email or phone and becomes the assigner of the new lead task. For a closer look at the integration settings themselves, see the video on the Facebook Lead Ads CRM integration.

Who it’s for

  • Small businesses without an ads team: the ad, the form and the audience are all set from the page’s Promote button.
  • Sales teams: every lead is an assigned task with the answers in it, not a row in an exported file.
  • Marketing teams: the questions in the form become task fields, so you can see which campaign brought which request.
  • Service businesses: enquiries and page messages land with the rest of your work.

FAQ

Can I create a Facebook lead ad from my company page?

Yes. Click Promote on the page, choose Create a new ad, set the goal to attracting leads and create the lead form there; the audience, duration, placements and payment method follow in the same flow.

How do I find out what my lead form fields are called?

Send yourself a test lead from Facebook’s lead ads testing tool. It reaches your Planfix account with all the form fields, and you map the sync by their names.

What does Planfix create when someone fills out the lead form?

A contact and a lead task from your templates, with all the form answers in the task description. A matching email or phone means no duplicate contact.

Start with one lead form

Pick one offer, build a short form for it, send a test lead and check the task and contact it produces before you spend on the ad. Direct messages and comments from the same page arrive as tasks through the Facebook CRM integration too, so forms and conversations end up in one place. New to Planfix? Start your free trial.
