Buttons in Planfix Tasks: Log Data in One Click
Buttons in Planfix tasks turn a field into a row of clickable values, so logging a detail takes one click instead of opening a drop-down and scrolling through it. This is a display option of the List field type: the same field can look like a standard list or like buttons, and the buttons version makes the task form easier to read and quicker to fill in. This video, a minute and a half long, shows how to add such a field to an object and set its values up.
What you’ll learn: how to set up buttons in a task field
- Why a List field has two display modes, a standard list and buttons.
- What buttons give you: every option visible at once and a value selected in a click.
- Where the field is created and what to fill in first (0:26).
- How to switch the display to buttons and give each value its own color (0:43).
- Why edits to the values apply to new tasks only.
- How to put the field on the object card so the buttons show up in every task.
How to set up buttons in Planfix tasks, step by step
Step 1. Create the List field in the object card (0:26)
Open Account management → Objects, select the object whose tasks need the new field and open its object card for editing. Create a new field, give it a name and set the type to List; add a description if your team needs a reminder of what belongs there. The field then travels with the object, which is how Planfix objects are shaped around a process. A custom field can also be created in Account management → Custom fields → Task fields and added to the objects you need afterwards.
Step 2. Switch the display to Buttons (0:43)
In the field settings, choose the Buttons display option. A List field can be shown as a List or as Buttons, and with buttons the values appear in the task as clickable buttons rather than a drop-down. Whoever fills in the task sees all the options at once, activates the field with a click and picks the value.
Step 3. Add the values and their colors
Add the values the field will offer: press Add for each one and type its name. To make the buttons easy to tell apart, activate the option that assigns a unique color to each list value, then set the color as you add the value. Entries can be rearranged by dragging them, so the order on screen matches the order your team works in. One limit is worth knowing before you fill the list in: renaming or changing entries has no effect on the data in tasks that already exist, because the updated values apply to new tasks.
Step 4. Save the field and add it to the object card
Save the field, then save the changes to the object. For quick access to the values, add the field to the object card so the buttons are there without any extra clicks. In the object form you can change the position and width of fields by dragging them, group them into panels and add hints, the short instructions employees see while creating a task. Put the buttons where the person logging the data looks first.
Example: logging the payment method in an order
The video’s example is an order. A List field was added to the object used for creating tasks with orders and its display was set to buttons, so the payment method options sit right in the task. The person handling the order clicks the field, selects the value, and the order carries that detail from then on. Because the answer lives in a field instead of a comment, it stays structured data you can filter in lists and analyze in Planfix reports.
Who it’s for
- Sales and order processing: payment method, delivery type or order source logged in one click while you are still on the call.
- Service teams: a short set of outcomes picked on the spot, with no drop-down to open.
- Administrators: one field configured once, with colors and an order the whole account reads the same way.
- Team leads: the same detail recorded the same way every time, so lists and reports stay comparable.
- Anyone filling in many tasks: fewer clicks per task and less typing of the same words.
FAQ
Can a task field be displayed as buttons in Planfix?
Yes. A List field has two display options, List and Buttons. With the Buttons option, the values appear in the task as clickable buttons, so a value is selected in one click instead of through a drop-down.
Can each button have its own color?
Yes. In the field settings, activate the option that assigns a unique color to each list value, then set a color for every value as you add it.
Where do I set up buttons for a task field?
Open Account management → Objects, edit the object card and create a List field there, or create the field in Account management → Custom fields → Task fields and add it to the object. The Buttons display option is in the field settings.
Start with the field you fill in most
Pick the question your team answers in almost every task, such as the payment method, the order source or the reason for a return, and turn it into a List field displayed as buttons. One click replaces a drop-down and free text, and the data comes out comparable across tasks. Fields like this are part of everyday task management software work in Planfix, and once the values are being filled in, the next step is to use them as task tags and labels in lists and filters.
