How to Reply to and Quote Comments in a Task

October 2, 2026 4 min read 6

To reply to a comment in a task and keep the context of the conversation, link your answer to the exact message it belongs to. When ten people write in the same task at once, it gets hard to follow who is answering what, so comments in Planfix tasks give you three ways to stay clear: a direct reply, a quote of a highlighted fragment, and Quote+. This 48-second video shows all three in the task chat.

What you’ll learn: how to reply to and quote comments

  • Why context gets lost when a dozen people comment in one task.
  • How a direct reply ties your comment to a colleague’s message.
  • How to quote only the point you are answering, not the whole message.
  • What Quote+ adds: the recipients, the send time and a link to the quoted comment.
  • How replies and quotes create separate conversation threads inside one task.

How to reply to and quote a comment in Planfix, step by step

Step 1. Reply to a comment directly

Open the task discussion and find the message you want to answer. Click the Respond arrow under that comment, in its bottom-left corner, and write your reply: Planfix links it to your colleague’s comment. After that, even if dozens of updates pile up in the feed, anyone reading the task can see what the reply refers to.

Step 2. Quote the exact point you are answering

When a message raises several questions and you need only one of them, quote that part. Highlight the text inside the comment and click Quote in the pop-up window that appears. Only the highlighted fragment goes into your new comment, so your answer stays short and leaves no doubt about what it addresses.

Step 3. Add full context with Quote+

If a short fragment is not enough, use Quote+. Hover over the comment, click the Additional actions icon and choose Quote+; the icon may look different depending on the comment display view you use. Planfix opens a new comment with the quoted text and extra details around it: the recipients of the original message, the time it was sent and a link to the quoted comment in the task.

Step 4. Keep parallel threads inside one task

Because every reply and every Quote+ points at a specific message, one task can carry several conversation threads at the same time instead of one flat feed. Keep using these tools in the Planfix task chat, and a long discussion stays readable for people who join it later. The Help Center lists every way of quoting a comment in Planfix.

Example from the video: ten people in one task

The video opens on a situation most teams recognize: ten people communicating in one task at the same time, with the thread of the conversation already hard to track. Instead of starting a new message at the bottom of the feed, the author clicks the arrow under a colleague’s comment, and the reply stays attached to it. Then, to answer one specific point, they highlight that sentence and click Quote, and finally switch to Quote+ when the answer needs the full context of the original message.

Who this is for

Targeted replies and quotes help any team whose work happens in task discussions:

  • Project managers: follow several parallel questions in one task without losing track of them.
  • Client-facing teams: answer one specific point of a long client message and show exactly what is being confirmed.
  • Specialists: quote a single line of a brief or a technical requirement and reply to it precisely.
  • Teams in different time zones: read a discussion hours later and still see which message each answer belongs to.

FAQ

How do I reply to a specific comment in a Planfix task?

Click the Respond arrow under that comment and write your answer. The reply stays linked to the original message, so the connection is still visible later in the feed.

What is the difference between Quote and Quote+?

Quote inserts the text you highlighted in a comment. Quote+ inserts the quote together with its details: the recipients of the message, its send time and a link to the quoted comment in the task.

Can one task hold several discussion threads?

Yes. Replies and quotes point at specific messages, which lets you keep separate conversation threads inside a single task instead of one flat list of comments.

Keep your next task discussion readable

Next time a task discussion grows past a few messages, answer with a reply or a quote instead of a new comment at the bottom. It works alongside the other habits of task chat: mentioning team members in comments and moving discussions from chats into tasks. New to Planfix? Sign up to try it.
