How to Edit and Restore Comments in Planfix

October 30, 2026 3 min read 3

Editing a comment is the quickest fix for a typo, a missing detail or a message posted in the wrong task, and in Planfix it costs you nothing in history. Comments can be edited, deleted, brought back and compared with their earlier versions in a log that records who changed what. This one-minute video shows every one of those moves.

What You’ll Learn: How to Edit, Delete and Restore Comments

  1. Why a posted comment sometimes has to be corrected (0:00).
  2. Two ways to open a comment for editing (0:09).
  3. How to delete a comment from the activity feed (0:27).
  4. How to show deleted actions again and restore them (0:40).
  5. What the comment log keeps about every change (0:50).

How to Edit a Comment in Planfix, Step by Step

Step 1. Open the Comment for Editing

There are two ways to start. Hover over the comment and click the three dots in its upper left corner to open the menu of available actions, then choose Edit. Or hover over the comment and click the pencil icon in its upper right corner. Both open the same editor, where you can rewrite the message or add new information to it. More on editing comments in the Help Center.

Step 2. Check the Updated Timestamp

Once you save, an updated timestamp appears below the comment. Nothing is hidden from the team: everyone in the task can see that the message was changed, and when. That is what makes editing safe to use in a work conversation rather than something to avoid.

Step 3. Delete a Comment

A comment can also be removed, from the same context menu or with the trash icon next to it. It disappears from the activity feed, which is usually the point: sensitive information posted in the wrong task should not sit in the thread. Deleting a comment does not erase it from the task’s history, though, which is what the next step is about.

Step 4. Show Deleted Actions and Restore Them

Open the comment settings and turn on the option to show all actions, including deleted ones. The removed comment reappears in the feed, marked as deleted, and from there you can restore it. Deleting the wrong message therefore stops being an emergency, and nobody has to write to the system administrator to get a comment back.

Step 5. Read the Comment Log

Each task keeps a comment log with the full history of changes to the conversation. It shows who edited a comment and when, lets you compare the original version with the updated one, and records deleted comments as well. For a long discussion about a deadline or a price, that log is the fastest way to find out what was actually agreed.

Who Can Edit a Comment

Editing rights are deliberately narrow. A comment can be opened for editing by the person who wrote it, by administrators, by the manager of the person who wrote it, and by the project’s client manager when the author is an external user. Only the author can change the text itself; the others can edit additional information, such as attached data tags. One more rule is worth knowing: the task status can be changed while editing a comment only if no other changes were made and this is the most recent action on the task.

Who It’s For

  • Client-facing teams: a price or a date corrected in place, with the correction visible to everyone.
  • Managers: a log that answers who changed the agreement and when.
  • Support and operations: a wrong message removed from the feed without losing the thread.
  • Administrators: fewer requests to recover something a colleague deleted by accident.

FAQ

Can you edit a comment in Planfix after posting it?

Yes. Open the comment’s context menu and choose Edit, or click the pencil icon on the comment. After you save, an updated timestamp appears below it, so the change is visible to the team.

Can a deleted comment be restored?

Yes. In the comment settings, turn on the option to show all actions, including deleted ones. The comment reappears in the feed and can be restored from there, without asking an administrator.

Who can edit someone else’s comment in Planfix?

Administrators, the manager of the author and the project’s client manager when the author is an external user. They can edit additional information such as data tags; the text itself can only be changed by the person who wrote it.

Final Thoughts

Turn on the display of deleted actions once, and a mistyped or misplaced comment becomes a two-click fix instead of a lost conversation.
