Unread Events in Planfix: Read, Remind or Reply

May 23, 2023 4 min read 6

Unread events in Planfix pile up whenever several tasks move at once: a comment in one, a status change in another, a new task you haven’t accepted yet. The Chronicle in Planfix gathers all of them into one feed of everything that needs your attention, and the rule for it is short: a good Chronicle is an empty Chronicle. This short Planfix for Beginners video shows how to work through that feed event by event.

What you’ll learn: how to clear unread events

  1. Where Planfix counts unread events: per task in the Chronicle and in total in the browser tab.
  2. How to mark an event as read when it needs no answer.
  3. How to postpone an event with a reminder.
  4. How to open the task from the feed and reply in its comment history.
  5. How to clear several unread messages and accept a new task.

How to clear unread events in Planfix, step by step

Step 1. Read the unread event count

Open the Chronicle; in the video it is the Chronicle in the default planner. Each task in the feed shows how many unread events it has, marked with a plus sign. The total number of unread events addressed to you is shown in the browser tab where Planfix is open, so you can see new updates while working in another tab. Both numbers go down as you process the feed.

Step 2. Mark an event as read when it needs no answer

Often reading is all an event takes: you finished a task, and the event only says the assigner changed its status to completed. Hover over the event and click Read, the flag icon; the event leaves the feed and the counter is updated. Hovering also reveals the other quick actions on a Chronicle event, such as Remind, Timeframe and Complete, so many events never require the task card.

Step 3. Postpone an event with a reminder

When a task needs you but not at this moment, set yourself a reminder in Planfix instead of leaving the event unread. Hover over the task and select Remind; in the video the reminder is set for 15 minutes later, and the system sends the notification when the time is up. Adding a reminder from the Chronicle removes the unread event now and brings the task back at the time you chose.

Step 4. Open the task and reply in the comment feed

Some events need action in the task itself. Click the event, and the task loads next to the feed with its comment history, where you can catch up and add a comment. Your colleague receives it in their own Chronicle: the task appears in their feed, and they continue the work from there.

Step 5. Mark all events in a task as read at once

An event can also be cleared by clicking the background of the comment. When one task has collected several unread messages, use the mark-all-as-read flag for that task instead of clicking them one by one: all of its events are marked together.

Step 6. Accept a new task

The last event in the video is a task assigned to you and not accepted yet. With the standard Planfix settings, such a task has the status New and shows Accept and Decline buttons; once you accept it, the status changes to In progress. In the video, the task also asks the assignee to read the accompanying document and confirm they are familiar with the instructions — work the narrator cannot do right away, so the task stays in the feed until they get back to it.

An event you can’t handle right now

The video treats the Chronicle like an email inbox: a task you are not ready to work on can simply stay in the feed until you come back and take the necessary action. Nothing disappears on its own, so the method holds — every event is read, answered or deliberately postponed. Email and Telegram are available in Planfix too, but the video recommends the Chronicle as the most versatile.

Who it’s for

  • New Planfix users: one feed to learn instead of several, with three answers to every event — read, remind or reply.
  • Assignees with parallel tasks: the per-task count shows which task is waiting, and the mark-all-as-read flag clears a noisy discussion at once.
  • Assigners and team leads: a comment left in the task reaches the assignee’s Chronicle, so requests are not lost between chats.
  • Anyone working across browser tabs: the total count in the tab tells you whether something new has arrived.

FAQ

Where does Planfix show the number of unread events?

In two places: the total count sits in the browser tab where Planfix is open, and the count for each task is shown in the Chronicle. The browser tab count can be turned off in your user card settings.

Can I make a Chronicle event unread again?

Yes. In the video, a second click on an event just marked as read makes it unread again. Events marked as read are not deleted either: toggle the slider in the top right-hand corner of the Chronicle to see all events.

Do I have to open a task to clear its event?

No. Hover over the event and use Read, Remind, Timeframe or Complete without leaving the feed. Open the task card when you need to read the discussion, add a comment, attach a file or create a subtask.

Get to an empty Chronicle today

Open your Chronicle and go through it to the end: read, remind or reply until the counter is at zero, then keep it that way. If too many events reach you in the first place, configure your Planfix notifications and subscribe only to what needs your response. For the different kinds of task events, see how to clear your task notification inbox. New to Planfix? Sign up to try it.
