Subtasks

Planfix supports nesting tasks, and there is no limit on the number of levels of nesting available. In Planfix terminology, nested tasks are called Subtasks.

Displaying subtasks in the main task panel

Because checklists and subtasks are closely related in Planfix, you can display subtasks as a checklist in the main task panel:

This setting for displaying subtasks will be applied to all tasks, including those that have subtasks but no checklist.

Displaying subtasks in filters

In a system task filter, you can enable the tree-like view of tasks and see the subtask structure of the desired task:

Expand the subtask panel as shown below to see the extended list:

The set of columns in the expanded subtask list initially depends on the task template settings.

Note:

• If the set of columns is changed in the template or one of the tasks created from this template, the changes will occur both in the template and in the tasks created from it.
• Only users with the permission to edit the task template can change columns in the expanded subtask list.

Important

Even though there are no limits on the number of subtasks or task nesting levels, some Planfix interfaces limit how many items are displayed to keep the system running smoothly. This includes:

• In task checklists, a maximum of 150 subtasks are displayed.
• If there are more than 1,000 subtasks, you may not be able to view them as a task tree list. In these cases, we recommend using a tabular display of task lists.

• In the template, you can also choose what will be created in a checklist by default: a checklist item or a subtask:

Note:

• Subtask deadlines cannot be later than the deadlines of the parent task.
• Planfix allows you to automatically divide a task into subtasks. Each subtask can have its own assignee. This way of assigning executors works on the principle of "A separate task for each assignee." If you choose this way of assigning assignees to subtasks, please note the following feature:

For example, there is task A with subtasks B and C. If you assign an assignee to such a set of subtasks by the described principle, subtasks B and C will be removed, and instead, new subtasks will be created for each assignee: A1, B1, C1; A2, B2, C2 (and so on, depending on the number of assignees). Therefore, we do not recommend triggering the automatic script action or the Create separate subtask for each assignee button on existing tasks with subtasks.
