This video, just over two minutes long, shows how to monitor a plotter\u2019s workload and manage orders with the <a href=\"https:\/\/planfix.com\/features\/planner\/\">Planner in Planfix<\/a>. Create an object for plotter orders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Start with a <a href=\"https:\/\/planfix.com\/features\/objects\/\">custom object for plotter orders<\/a>: go to <strong>Account Management<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>Types of objects<\/strong> and click <strong>New Object<\/strong> (before the July 2026 update, this section was called Objects). The new card already has fields for the customer, due dates and assignee. Add the cut length as a <strong>Number<\/strong> field: in the object form, click the plus button to create it. Put it on the main panel of the card so the plotter\u2019s load is visible as soon as someone opens an order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 (1:04). Configure statuses for the order queue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For print job status tracking, the object\u2019s set of statuses defines the order lifecycle. It starts with the standard Planfix statuses, and the video first removes the ones it doesn\u2019t need. To build a <a href=\"https:\/\/planfix.com\/features\/status-sets\/\">custom status set for the order lifecycle<\/a>, click <strong>Add status to set<\/strong>, pick an existing status or click the plus button to create one, then choose the allowed transitions from and to it. The video adds <strong>In progress now<\/strong> and <strong>Ready for production<\/strong>; use names that fit your print production queue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3 (1:20). Create a Planner with an Inbox list<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>Planner<\/strong> tab, click the <strong>Add<\/strong> icon at the bottom of the planners panel, select <strong>Planner<\/strong> and enter a name. By default, only the creator can open a new planner, so click its name to give the managers and the operator access. Then add the first list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>name it Inbox and choose the <strong>Cards<\/strong> type;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>set <strong>selection parameters<\/strong> so it collects processed orders waiting for the plotter;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>show the cut length on the cards;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>turn on the <a href=\"https:\/\/planfix.com\/help\/Totals_in_Planners\">totals section in Planner lists<\/a> to add up cut length and see the overall load.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4 (1:38). Add a Today\u2019s Orders table with a load limit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add a second list of the <strong>Table<\/strong> type. In the video, its columns are grouped by status and its rows by completion date. A Table needs specific values, so list the statuses for the columns: <strong>In progress<\/strong>, <strong>In progress now<\/strong> and <strong>Ready for production<\/strong>. Then choose which order data the cards display. The final touch is a limit and a color indicator on the total cut length, so the plotter isn\u2019t overloaded. The result is production order tracking in one table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example: a daily machine capacity limit of 250,000 mm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the video, managers add processed orders to the Inbox and enter the cut length right away. The operator moves orders from the Inbox into the first column (<strong>In progress<\/strong>) to build the queue, then takes them one by one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The video doesn\u2019t name a limit value. In the case study, the plotter\u2019s daily limit is 250,000 mm, set in the table\u2019s totals section, and the header turns red once the queue goes over it, alerting the operator and the managers processing orders. The case study notes the same approach fits furniture and textile companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who this print shop workflow is for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Print and sign shops:<\/strong> one plotter, many orders and a daily cut-length limit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Managers taking orders:<\/strong> enter the cut length when adding a processed order to the Inbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plotter operators:<\/strong> take orders one by one from a single queue and see the total load under the list heading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FAQ<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do I need a print MIS to manage orders in a small print shop?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It depends on what you need. The setup in this video gives you an order queue, order statuses and the daily load of one machine in the Planner. Pricing and quotes aren\u2019t shown in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does dragging an order to another column change its status?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. A moved order takes on the selection parameters of the target list or table cell, so dropping it into <strong>In progress now<\/strong> sets that status. If the target list has several standard conditions, only the last one is applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why doesn\u2019t an order show up in the Planner?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may not match the list\u2019s selection parameters, or automation may have changed it so it no longer matches.
